GET TO KNOW YOUR VET – CHUCK GRIMASUCKAS

Chuck Grimasuckas, better known as Grim, is the Vice President of the Corporation Officers at the Millersville VFW Post 7294. While he is someone who prefers to remain aloof, those closest to him really get to see the light-hearted jokester that he is.

Grim became a member of the Post two years ago. He was approached by a friend of his who passed along word that the VFW was on the verge of closing its’ doors. There was a lack of regular members and the Canteen was struggling. Grim joined with the understanding that he needed to help keep the Post opened and help it become more successful.

About a year after he joined the VFW, Grim became Vice President of the Corporation of Officers. He really did not waste any time getting in there and making changes to help the overall morale and growth of the Post. With this particular role, Grim is able to bring ideas and issues that are identified by the staff to the VFW members in order for them to discuss such matters. The Corporation Officers see that daily business is operational, but they are not the ones in charge of making final decisions. All matters of the Canteen are brought before the VFW regular membership and then a vote is taken or a decision is made at that time.

Over the last two years, Grim has really felt a sense of bonding with the other members of the Post and the employees. He feels as though it is important for everyone’s voice to be heard when it comes to business matters. He always welcomes compliments, concerns and questions because it is his goal to make the Post more efficient and to continue making it an enjoyable environment for all those involved.

While his position as Vice President of the Corporation of Officers calls for some hard work, Grim makes sure to make time to enjoy the events that take place at the Post. He really enjoys the different bands that play there. He enjoys watching others having a good time while enjoying music. He also likes the Christmas Party and the Picnic that they all provide for the VFW members. As of right now, Grim would really like to see Bingo come back to the Post, but finding volunteers to assist with that can sometimes be troublesome.

Thinking back, Grim recalls a time when he received some major payback for his jokester ways. He really enjoys making people laugh. However, the staff got him back this past year at the Christmas Party and he was slammed in the face with a whipped cream pie. Who says work needs to be all fun and no play? Not us!

Overall, Grim really enjoys his position at the Post and everything the Post does for the community and its members. He feels as though the most important appeal to the Post is the dedication to the surrounding area. The Post provides a lot of financial help to the community through the regular members of the Post, the Auxiliary members and the Social members. The Post is always hosting different types of fundraisers. The location is also perfect and there’s always a great deal on the pricing of the drinks, food and entertainment that is offered.

With the pandemic looming over us still, there is no wonder that the Post suffered a bit, just like every other business in America. Grim noticed the huge financial burden it took on the memberships at the Post. When everything re-opened, the Post had to build back the membership as well as mend old relationships with prior members in order to show them that the Post and the Officers were making every effort to make positive and effective changes. Some of these included personnel changes for the Canteen, menu changes and support for the VFW members who were carrying the VFW on their shoulders and attempting to keep the doors open. The Post has been blessed to have such amazing men and women to better the organization.  Grim states that the current and past Officers have worked and still continue to work tirelessly to make the Post fun and enjoyable for every single member.

Over the next two to five years, Grim has high hopes for the Post. He wants it to continue to be successful and for the membership to grow. He would really like to see Bingo make a big comeback, as he mentioned before. He would also like to see a pool league sponsored by the Post as well. Overall, it seems as though the future holds endless and great possibilities for this business and all of those involved.

Chuck Grimasuckas is a man of few words, a man of mystery. But one thing he is loud and proud of…his Post and the relationships he has built along the way!
